Kylian Mbappe's 'ruthless' reaction to Harry Kane penalty miss is going viral, he really went there

Kylian Mbappe's 'ruthless' reaction to Harry Kane penalty miss is going viral, he really went there

The England forward couldn't convert from 12 yards to equalise against reigning champions France.

Kylian Mbappe's reaction after Harry Kane missed an 85th-minute penalty in Saturday's World Cup quarter-final between France and England is going viral.

Gareth Southgate's side recorded wins over Iran, Wales and Senegal ahead of their clash against reigning world champions France, but the Three Lions were knocked out of this winter's tournament in heartbreaking fashion.

Aurelien Tchouameni scored his first competitive goal for France to give the reigning world champions a deserved lead.

Then, in the opening stages of the second-half, Tchouameni went from hero to zero when referee Wilton Sampaio pointed to the spot after the 22-year-old midfielder clattered into Bukayo Saka.

Like he has done on so many occasions down the years, Harry Kane converted from 12 yards to level the scores.

And England managed to get a real foothold of the game soon after, as Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden pulled the strings from attacking areas.

But against the run of play, France's record goalscorer Olivier Giroud put Les Bleus ahead with 77-minutes played, heading past a helpless Jordan Pickford.

It was a tough one to take for England, who looked dangerous in large spells throughout the second-half.

Heads didn't drop, though, and seven minutes after Giroud's goal, Theo Hernandez clumsily barged into Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount and another penalty was awarded.

England's joint-record goalscorer Kane would step up to take the spot-kick but uncharacteristically ballooned his effort over the bar.

Moments later and cameras panned towards an unsympathetic Kylian Mbappe, who reacted by brutally laughing at the missed penalty. You can see that reaction below.

To be fair to Mbappe, he was one of the first France players to console an emotional Kane after the final whistle.

Fans were still quick to react to him laughing at the penalty miss, mind.

One said: "Mbappe is very wicked for that laugh," while another commented: "Mbappe didn't even smile and laugh like this when he won the World Cup."

A third wrote: "Not my sport, but watching with the kids and genuinely hoping England do well. But... Mbappe’s reaction to Kane’s miss made me laugh out loud for a good five minutes."

England's ability to deal with the French forward was always going to play a factor in Saturday's clash, but Kyle Walker was confident ahead of kick-off.

"I understand what I need to do and that is to stop him," Walker said. "It's easier said than done but I don't underestimate myself.

"He is a fantastic player in great form. It is not going to be an easy task, but as a professional footballer you want to play against the best and I think he is one of the best, if not the best, in the world at the moment."

Mbappe, however, had the last laugh as France progressed to next Wednesday's semi-final.

Didier Deschamps' side will face surprise package Morocco at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor. Can they go all the way and defend their World Cup crown?
