Jurgen Klopp has been advised not to sign either Jude Bellingham or Youri Tielemans and shift his focus to a player who “would suit” Liverpool’s style better.
The Reds have had a quiet January transfer window and are unlikely to sign any major players until the futures of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are sorted.
However, Liverpool are expected to reinforce in the summer window and a top midfielder is believed to be on the Reds’ radar.
The Reds have been linked with Real Madrid starlet Eduardo Camavinga, but a deal would be unlikely as the midfielder signed with Los Blancos only six months ago.
Klopp is also an admirer of Bellingham and Liverpool could challenge Premier League rivals Manchester United in the race to sign the Borussia Dortmund midfielder.
However, Bellingham is under contract with Dortmund until 2025 and the German club could demand up to £100m to sell the England international.

One of the more affordable options for Liverpool would be Tielemans, who has entered into the final 18 months of his contract with Leicester City.
Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that the 24-year-old Belgian midfielder could leave the King Power in the summer transfer window.
John Barnes has now urged Klopp to make a move for Brighton star Yves Bissouma, who would be a ‘better fit’ for Liverpool ahead of Bellingham and Tielemans.
“Youri Tielemans is a brilliant player, but he’s a completely different type of footballer to Yves Bissouma,” he told BonusCodeBets.
“Tielemans is a very good hardworking midfielder, but if you look at the nature of what Liverpool midfielders do, in terms of their physicality and the ability to get up and down the field, that isn’t necessarily what Tielemans does.
“Youri is excellent in possession and is perhaps maybe more Manchester City’s style of player.
“Yves Bissouma would suit the Liverpool style more than Tielemans would. The same as he would with Jude Bellingham.”
Bissouma has impressed at Brighton and has attracted interest from Aston Villa, United, Liverpool and Arsenal.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who has been on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Mali, has entered into the final 18 months of his contract at the Seagulls.
Bissouma is valued at around £50m, with Brighton manager Graham Potter hinting that the club could cash in on the player if he turns down a contract extension.
“There are lots of ifs and buts,” he said.
“I’m confident. Yves is enjoying his football here but as I have said with the transfer window you never know.”
