"What's going on?" - Pundits left stunned after Jurgen Klopp disrespects Liverpool legend

talkSPORT pundits Jamie O'Hara and Jason Cundy have criticised Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp over comments made towards Reds legend Dietmar Hamann.

Hamann played for Liverpool between 1999 and 2006, winning nine trophies in that time period. His accolades included the 2005 Champions League trophy, with his introduction from the substitutes' bench at half-time widely seen as one of the catalysts behind the Reds' famous comeback from 3-0 down to defeat AC Milan on penalties in Istanbul.

In the present day, the German works as a pundit, following a brief spell as manager of Stockport County in 2011. He was on the panel for Irish channel RTE following the Reds' 2-0 win over Rangers last week.

Although this represented a second consecutive win in the Champions League, the Reds sat ninth in the Premier League table at the time, with just two wins from nine matches. They dropped to 10th following Sunday's 3-2 defeat to Arsenal.

Speaking after the Rangers win, Hamann gave his honest thoughts on Liverpool's current form.

Hamann claimed: "The team looks a bit flat. There's a spark missing we used to see. Maybe, should the manager transfer the spark on to the team, the team transfer the spark on to the manager or the fans? It all looks a bit deflated and flat at the moment."

What did Klopp say in response to Hamann's comments?

Speaking prior to this week's Champions League clash against the Gers at Ibrox, Klopp had a clear response to Hamann's comments.

He said: "Who said that? Oh great! A fantastic source. Well respected everywhere.

"Hamann played for Liverpool [but] that does not give you the right to say what you want, especially when you have no idea. I actually think Didi Hamann does not deserve that you use his phrase to ask a question. Do me a favour and ask your own question. Try to ask without using the word spark."

Jason Cundy, Jamie O'Hara criticise Klopp

Klopp's comments did not go down well with talkSPORT pundits Jason Cundy and Jamie O'Hara.

Cundy, who played as a midfielder for Chelsea and Tottenham, claimed (quotes via TBR Football): "The mask is slipping", before O'Hara questioned: "He's getting very spiky, isn't he?"

Cundy then said: "All you see is teeth and tonsils when things are going well."

Finally, O'Hara, who also played for Spurs during his professional career, commented: "That's disrespectful to Hamann, that. He's been a hell of a player over the years. What's going on with Klopp? Hamann's a top player. He played for Liverpool. He deserves to have his opinion."

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy, meanwhile, described Klopp's response as "uncalled for".

He told talkSPORT's White and Jordan Show: "The part about him responding to Dietmar Hamann, 'Oh, a fantastic source, well respected everywhere', in a sarcastic way, that was uncalled for. I don't think that was needed.

"Jurgen Klopp is far more intelligent than that and he doesn't need to be riled up by former players' comments. He's frustrated, he's on edge. I think he could have dealt with that better and just moved it on."
