Joao Felix brutally stripped of the No.7 shirt by Atletico Madrid

The future of Joao Felix is up in the air

Joao Felix has been stripped of the No.7 shirt at Atletico Madrid after returning to the club from a loan spell with Chelsea.

Back in January, Felix moved to Stamford Bridge in order to reignite a career that has seemingly stagnated after a difficult recent spell with Atletico.

However, the Portuguese failed to impress during his time with Chelsea, Felix only managed to score four goals in 16 Premier League appearances for the Blues.

Now, things have gone from bad to worse for the 23-year-old after being stripped of the No.7 shirt.

Atletico have already handed the No.7 to another player, you can watch the footage below.

Felix’s number has now been given to Frenchman Antoine Griezmann.

The 32-year-old first wore the number during his first spell with the club before leaving for Barcelona.

After his loan deal was made permanent in October of 2022, the club have now decided to give Griezmann the famous No. 7 jersey.

Towards the back end of the 22/23 season, Felix expressed his desire to stay with Chelsea.

In a video, the forward said: “don't know yet my future, but these four or five months, I've loved it. It's a top club. Everyone in the club was very good to me. My team-mates, unbelievable. I really like to be here.”

However, Atletico club president Enrique Cerezo confirmed in May that Chelsea will not be making Felix’s loan deal permanent.

He told Spanish media: “Yesterday we had the news that the new Chelsea manager [Pochettino] does not [want] João Félix.

“We've known for less than 24 hours. He'll come back here and we'll see. We don't have anything planned.”

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the La Liga side are looking to part ways with Felix in the summer transfer window, despite spending £114 million to bring him to Madrid back in 2019.
