Barcelona starlet Gavi was subjected to cruel 'p*ta Barca' chants during Spain's Nations League celebrations.

Spain beat Croatia 5-4 on penalties to claim the Nations League on Sunday as they secured their first trophy win since Euro 2012.

Dani Carvajal scored the winning penalty to deny Luka Modric his first international honour for Croatia, leaving him crestfallen.

La Roya celebrated their triumph with a parade on Monday, with 18-year-old Gavi giving a speech after starting in Rotterdam.

But his speech was interrupted by rival fans who chanted 'p*ta (which translate to whore) Barca' at him as he addressed the crowd.

He looked visibly flustered while club colleague Jordi Alba cut a shocked figure as he watched on from behind.

The vile chants at Gavi, naturally, sent social media wild.

One Twitter user wrote: "They hate Barca more than they love their club."

A second tweeted: "Sad people man, actually pathetic."

A third added: "What is Spain without La Masia?"

A fourth said: "Peaks of ugly behavior. Torturing an 18 year old kid during your own national team's success."

Another commented: "An 18 year old, imagine that. People forget he's just a kid."

Gavi graduated from Barca's famed youth academy before breaking into the first team. He made his debut in August 2021 and has since racked up 96 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Despite his success with Spain, his club allegiances don't sit well with some fans.

Speaking after converting the winning penalty, Carvajal spoke about his team's Nations League triumph.

"Very happy for us. It was a unique opportunity. We were knocked out early in other championships and today we had to take advantage of it," he said.

"We had confidence in the penalties and it turned out well.

"I knew how to shoot it. I knew I would be the sixth [taker]. I gave a talk motivating in the huddle and I got emotional. I wanted to do it like Panenka and it turned out well."
