Fantasy Premier League unveil new assistant manager 'mystery chip' as biggest change made to the game in years

Fantasy Premier League have finally revealed the brand new Mystery Chip, and it could change everything about the popular game.

When the 2024/25 season of FPL launched in July, a hidden mystery chip was also announced to be added alongside the current wildcard, free hit and triple captain chips.

Ahead of the official launch of the chip in January, many fans took to social media to speculate what the exciting new addition could do, with some suggesting it may allow managers to have an unlimited budget for one week.

And now, the mystery chip has finally been revealed, and it's the biggest change to the game in years.

With the Premier League currently in the middle of the festive period, the busiest time of the FPL calendar is well and truly underway.

And it is during this time, that FPL decided to announce the Assistant Manager chip, allowing players to choose one of the 20 Premier League managers to earn points for their team for three successive gameweeks.

Once activated, FPL managers choose a current Premier League manager who will earn points for them based on the results their team gets across the three games.

The Assistant Manager will get you six points for each win, three for a draw, two for a clean sheet and one point for every goal.

However, this will not always be the case, as managers who face a club five or more places higher in the Premier League table at the start of the Gameweek could earn even more points for FPL managers.

Should one of these managers beat the higher-ranked side, they will get an extra 10 points, so 16 in total, or an additional five points for a draw, so eight in total.

Each Premier League manager has been priced between 0.5 and 1.5million but FPL players will not be granted any extra budget when using the chip.

Additionally, the selected manager will count towards the FPL rule that no more than three players/manager can be selected from the same club.

Reacting to the news, one popular FPL content creator wrote on X: "My initial thoughts: 1) Extremely confusing.

"2) Hate that the assistant manager comes out of your same budget (we need to free up money for this).

"3) Hate that the manager takes up one of your slots for that team (e.g., can’t own 3x Arsenal & Arteta)."
