James McClean hits out after releasing images of sickening car crash that fans are amazed he survived

The Wrexham winger was involved in a serious road traffic accident on his way to training on Wednesday morning.

James McClean has had his say after releasing images of his recent car crash on social media on Thursday evening.

McClean, 35, was on his way to training on Wednesday when he was involved in the accident. The League One side later confirmed that a first-team player – who they did not name – was involved and that emergency services were called.

The incident occurred near “the A534 in Wrexham” according to the police statement.

Wrexham AFC can confirm that a first-team player has been involved in a car accident this morning on his way to training,” read the statement.

“It was a single car accident with no other vehicles involved and the relevant local authorities were quickly present at the scene.

“The player reported to the Club this morning and will undergo further medical checks."

This came after McClean had hit the headlines in recent weeks following a confrontation with Shrewsbury Town fans.

The Irishman was subject to verbal abuse from home fans during Shrewsbury’s 2-1 win against Wrexham on January 16. In the days that followed, he took to Instagram issuing a strong response.

"In fairness, if I was born and raised in Shrewsbury I'd probably be this angry as well cause its an absolute cesspit full of inbreds,” he captioned a video of the Shrewsbury fans.

McClean played during Wrexham’s 1-1 draw against league leaders Birmingham City on Thursday evening and shortly after the game issued an update on social media about the events of this week.

The winger posted two images of his damaged black Audi accompanied by a message.

“Now that the game’s out of the way, to address yesterday, an experience I never wish to encounter again," he wrote. "I am blessed and thankful I managed to walk away with minor injuries and return home to my family tho much to the disappointment of some smelly scruffy pathetic creatures that messaged my wife online, thank you for the messages of support.”

The former Premier League player has been subject to widespread abuse from opposition fans throughout his professional career.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson recently explained how he felt that the "level of abuse goes too far".

"Occasionally the level of abuse goes too far and I'm not sure enough is done about it," Parkinson said.

"People are quite quick to jump on the back of players for stepping out of line and referees are quick to give people yellow cards.

"Then I think what are the EFL doing about the level of abuse Jimmy gets on a week to week basis and for me it's nowhere near enough.

"But unfortunately I don't think my words are going to be enough to change that."

Wrexham are back in action on Tuesday when they will play host to Stevenage at The Racecourse.
