Wrexham complete deadline-day signing as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney break club record for Paul Mullin partner

Wrexham complete deadline-day signing as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney break club record for Paul Mullin partner

Wrexham have made their first deadline day signing.

Wrexham have splashed the cash on a deadline day signing in order to bring in a strike partner for Paul Mullin.

Wrexham have been heavily reliant on the goals of Mullin in recent seasons, but now owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have brought in a striker to held ease the burden on him.

On Friday morning Wrexham completed the signing of 21-year-old striker Mo Faal from Championship side West Bromwich Albion.

Faal has signed a three-yea deal with the League One club with the option of an extra year.

Wrexham have paid a fee of around £500,000, making Faal their record signing. West Brom inserted a sell-on clause into the deal.

It's the second time this summer that Wrexham have broken their transfer record, following the signing of midfielder Ollie Rathbone from Rotherham for around £420,000.

Faal scored six goals in 20 games in League Two while on loan at Walsall last season.

The 21-year-old joined West Brom's youth set-up from Sutton Coldfield Town in 2019, but only made three appearances for the first team.

Since being promoted to the first team set-up in 2021, Faal has spent time on loan at Hereford, AFC Telford United, AFC Fylde, Doncaster Rovers and Walsall.

Faal is Wrexham's eighth signing of the summer as the Welsh club look to establish themselves in League One and push for promotion to the Championship.

Wrexham have made a strong start to their first season back in the third tier in 20 year years. Phil Parkinson's side opened the new campaign with a 3-2 win against Wycombe, before drawing 0-0 with Bolton and beating Reading 3-0.
