Fans noticed Turkey player was wearing the 'wrong kit' during Georgia win

Turkey kicked off their Euro 2024 with a victory against Georgia.

Eagle-eyed fans have noticed one Turkey player was wearing the wrong kit during their win against Georgia.

On Tuesday evening, Turkey opened their Euro 2024 campaign with a win over Georgia.

Goals from Mert Muldur, Arda Guler and Kerem Akturkoglu were enough to seal a 3-1 victory. Georges Mikautadze was the scorer for Georgia.

Towards the end of the match, fans spotted that Turkey defender Samet Akaydin was wearing the wrong kit.

The defender wears the number four shirt but towards the closing stages, had the number 14 shorts on.

Turkey’s number 14 turns out to be Akaydin’s defensive partner, Abdulkerim Bardakci.

Reacting on social media, one fan said: “Samet Akaydın is wearing a jersey numbered 4 on top and 14 on bottom. Does anyone know if this will cause a problem??”

Another tweeted: “Life time ban from sports.”

A third fan added: “What was the fourth official doing?”

After the match, Akaydin wrote on social media: “For those of you wondering, I returned the shorts to their owner.”

During the match, Real Madrid’s teenage superstar Guler scored a stunning goal to make it 2-1 to Turkey.

Reacting to the 19-year-old’s strike, BBC pundit Ashley Williams said: “An incredible goal. We spoke about this being a chance to announce himself on the major tournament scene and boy did he do that.

“He showed his quality. We were expecting to see something from him - that is unbelievable.”

Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock added on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Earlier on in the game we saw Arda Guler roaming round the pitch [and showing] those nice touches that he possesses.

“The moment of magic that we saw with the goal was quite brilliant - that is only a glimpse of what he can do.”
