The most expensive squads of 2024 have been ranked and there are some surprising teams that make the top 10.
Money is as important as ever at the highest level of football, whether it's Everton getting a points deduction or Cristiano Ronaldo making the shock move to Saudi Arabia, everything goes back to money.
While the all-time transfer record of £200m which saw Neymar Jr make the switch to PSG is still yet to be broken after seven years, clubs are spending more than ever on their squads.

With the 2024 summer transfer window now shut across all of the top-five European leagues, the clubs who have spent the most on their current squad have been ranked.
Unsurprisingly the list is dominated by Premier League clubs, but even more unsurprisingly it's Chelsea who claim the top spot ahead of Man United and Man City who complete the top three.
Todd Boehly's side are the only club in the world to have spent over one billion pounds on their current crop of players, and by adding 11 first-team players this summer they certainly kept their reputation.

The London club added Joao Felix, Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto, Marc Guiu, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to their already stacked attacking options which include Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Noni Madueke.
Perhaps the more surprising Premier League inclusion in the top 10 is Newcastle United, who join Liverpool, Spurs, and Arsenal alongside the top three in the list.
The Toon army had a rather conservative 2024 window with the confirmation of Lewis Hall's loan deal being made permanent the only real addition to the main first-team squad.

However, their lavish spending earlier in the Saudi's reign which saw them sign Kieran Trippier, Sandro Tonali, Sven Botman, Bruno Guimarães, and Anthony Gordon makes them good value for 9th on the list.
