Real Madrid have released an official statement condemning fan behaviour after their thrashing by Barcelona.
On Saturday night, Los Blancos welcomed rivals Barcelona to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu for the first El Clasico of the 24/25 La Liga season.
Hansi Flick’s men were in fine form as a brace from Robert Lewandowski plus goals from Lamine Yamal and Raphinha sealed a comfortable 4-0 win for Barcelona.
After the match, a video circulated on social media which appeared to capture fans shouting racist and xenophobic slurs at 17-year-old Barcelona star Yamal, who scored to make it 3-0.

On Madrid’s official website, the statement read: “Real Madrid categorically condemns any type of behavior that involves racism, xenophobia or violence in football and sport, and deeply regrets the insults that a few fans uttered last night in one of the corners of the stadium.
“Real Madrid has opened an investigation in order to locate and identify the perpetrators of these regrettable and despicable insults, in order to adopt the relevant disciplinary and judicial measures.”
Speaking after the match, Yamal said: “When we were winning in the league, people said those were mid-table teams and that when the important moments came, you would see what would happen.
“But Madrid are one of the best teams in the world, and we’ve beaten them 4-0. We have shown, both with Bayern and with Madrid, that we are ready for anything.”

He added: “I thought I would score today no matter what, because I’d gone a few games without scoring.
“You really enjoy it when you hear your fans more than your opponents’ in their stadium. A victory in El Clasico is very important, but it is only three points, and we have to think about the Espanyol match [next Sunday].”
Barcelona extended their lead at the top of the La Liga table to six points after their famous win at the Bernabeu.
