Newcastle United brutally troll Arsenal after beating them in Carabao Cup semi-final

Newcastle beat Arsenal 4-0 on aggregate in the Carabao Cup semi-final and the club aimed a cheeky dig on social media.

Newcastle United couldn't resist trolling Arsenal after beating the Gunners 4-0 on aggregate over two legs to reach the Carabao Cup final.

The Magpies led 2-0 from the first leg at the Emirates thanks to goals from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon and Eddie Howe's men outfoxed Mikel Arteta's side once again on home soil with an incredible team performance.

Jacob Murphy opened the scoring seconds after Martin Odegaard hit the post, before Gordon made it 4-0 on aggregate early on in the second half after David Raya's pass put Declan Rice under pressure and allowed the winger to slot home.

Cheered on by a raucous St James' Park, Newcastle bullied Arsenal and will now play against Spurs or Liverpool in the final at Wembley as they look to finally end a 70-year trophy drought.

After the first leg loss, Arteta had complained about the Puma ball used for the Carabao Cup games, claiming, "it's tricky that this ball flies a lot" after a number of chances went begging.

Newcastle fans chanted "it must be the ball" to Arteta during the game and the club's social media account also decided to poke fun.

They captioned a picture of the yellow match-ball by writing, "The culprit:" - which led to a flurry of stunned reactions from fans online.

Fans were also convinced that goalscorer Gordon aimed a dig at Arsenal in his post-match interview when he called for his team to "stay humble" in what many perceived to be a reference to Erling Haaland's comment that Arsenal used as motivation in their 5-1 win over Manchester City on Sunday.

"It is important for us to stay humble now," Gordon said in an interview with Sky Sports.

"We had a good run and then two results we didn’t see coming, this is a good game to get us back on track but we need to keep our heads down."

Newcastle have pencilled in another cup final appearance on March 16 but they now turn their attentions to Saturday when they travel to play League One leaders Birmingham City in the FA Cup fourth round.
