Newcastle have opened talks over the signing of a former Manchester City player ahead of the transfer deadline, according to reports.
The transfer window slams shut on Friday night, with the Magpies having done little in the way of significant business so far this summer.
Of the six players they have brought in, two are backup goalkeepers, while Lewis Hall was signed on a permanent deal as a result of an option triggered from his Chelsea loan contract last season.

In recent weeks, Newcastle have been pursuing the signing of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, but their most recent bid of £65 million was rejected by the Eagles.
Now, according to reports, they are targeting the signing of former Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford from Burnley.
The 21-year-old starred for England U21s in helping them to win the U21 European Championship last summer, which earned him a move to the newly-promoted Clarets.

But Trafford struggled to adapt to the Premier League during his first season, and was dropped for the last few games of the campaign in place of Arijanet Muric before the side were relegated back to the second tier.
He is back as Burnley's number one choice now following Muric's departure to Ipswich, and has started two of their three Championship games under Scott Parker.
According to talkSPORT's Alex Crook, Newcastle are now revisiting a move for Trafford, having tried to sign him earlier in the summer.

It is claimed that personal terms will not be an issue, although the Magpies will need to sell one of their existing five senior goalkeepers to get a move over the line.
A loan move with an obligation to buy is the preferred option by Newcastle, the report adds, with Burnley having previously rejected an offer of £15 million from Newcastle.
