A Premier League club is the most likely destination for Gareth Southgate’s next managerial job after his England departure, according to Betfair's latest odds.
Southgate announced his decision to step down as England boss on Tuesday morning, less than 48 hours after the Three Lions suffered a 2-1 defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.
In a statement announcing the news, he wrote: "As a proud Englishman, it has been the honour of my life to play for England and to manage England. It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all.

"But it's time for change, and for a new chapter. Sunday's final in Berlin against Spain was my final game as England manager."
Southgate described England as having "the best fans in the world" before saying their support has "meant the world to me" after 102 games and eight years in charge.
The 53-year-old has already been offered the chance to work as a leading pundit for ITV, who hold Southgate in high esteem.

But it seems his real ambition is to get back into club management, having previously been in charge of Middlesbrough.
"He thinks he can do a very good job for a club side high up in the Premier League, a Champions League club," said Sky reporter Rob Dorsett.
"Whilst it's the end of his time as England manager, It's not the end of his time as a manager. He has ambitions to move on from here."
So which club is the most likely destination for Gareth Southgate? According to Betfair, the favourites are Newcastle United, who are currently priced at 9/2 to make a move.

Eddie Howe, who has previously stated his desire to become the England manager, is being heavily linked with the national job, so it's unsurprising that Southgate is favourite to take over at St James' Park.
Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “Following confirmation of Gareth Southgate’s departure on Tuesday morning, Newcastle is his most likely next managerial job at 9/2, with Eddie Howe 11/4 the second-favourite for the Three Lions vacancy.
“Southgate is 7/1 to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, with Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and a return to Middlesbrough all possibilities for the 53-year-old.”

FA chief executive Mark Bullingham and technical director John McDermott will now spearhead the process to appoint Southgate's replacement.
Bullingham confirmed on Tuesday that the process for appointing Gareth’s successor is now under way.
