Zinedine Zidane has been linked with the manager's job at Manchester United for a number of years, but would he take the role now that Erik ten Hag's time at Old Trafford has come to an end?
Following their controversial 2-1 defeat to West Ham, United confirmed on Monday morning that Ten Hag would leave his position as first-team manager following a two-and-a-half year spell.
In a statement on their official website, they wrote: "Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager. Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024."

The statement added: "We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future."
United also confirmed that Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined his former club as Ten Hag's assistant in the summer, would take interim charge whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.
A number of potential candidates are being thrown around the rumour mill, including Thomas Frank, Ruben Amorim and former Barcelona manager Xavi. But what about Zinedine Zidane?

The former Real Madrid manager has been out of work since 2021, when he left Los Blancos after three Champions League title wins.
He has recently been linked with the France national team, although French outlet RMC claim Didier Deschamps has no plans to step down in the near future, which could potentially open the door to United.
Zidane, however, has previously played down joining a club in England.
Back in 2021, as he continued to be linked with United following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Zidane addressed the rumours in an interview with L'Equipe.

"Would I want to go to Manchester [United]? I understand English, but I'm not completely fluent in it," he said.
"I know that there are coaches who go to clubs without speaking the language, but I work in a different way. Many elements come into play in order to win, it is a global context. I know what I need to win."
Three years prior to those comments, Zidane's agent, Alain Migliaccio, explained why Zidane would not be suited to a job in the Premier League.

"I do not think that he will manage in England," Migliaccio said. "It is much less his style. I have discussed it with him, it does not really attract him."
