Cristiano Ronaldo has told Ruben Amorim the one thing he must do as soon as he becomes Manchester United manager

Cristiano Ronaldo has told Ruben Amorim the one thing he must do as soon as he becomes Manchester United manager

The incoming new Old Trafford boss has been told how to approach life at United by CR7.

Ruben Amorim will soon become the new Manchester United boss and Cristiano Ronaldo has already pointed out what his countryman must do at his old club.

Amorim takes over as United's head coach from Monday, November 11, following his final game in charge of Sporting this weekend against Braga away.

Since Erik ten Hag's sacking, Ruud van Nistelrooy has been in interim charge at United and has picked up two wins and a draw in his three games in charge.

Van Nistelrooy's last game in his interim spell will be tomorrow at Old Trafford when United host Leicester City in the Premier League.

Amorim has agreed a contract at United until 2027 and his first game in charge will be after the upcoming international break when the Reds travel to take on promoted Ipswich Town.

Ronaldo had two spells at Old Trafford, having been bought by Sir Alex Ferguson from Sporting back in 2003 for more than £12m as David Beckham's replacement.

Ronaldo went on to win three Premier League titles, the Champions League and the Ballon d'Or in six years at United, before departing in the summer of 2009 for a then world record £80m to Real Madrid.

Following his time in the Spanish capital and a spell at Juventus, Ronaldo returned to United in the summer of 2021.

However, Ronaldo's second spell at United did not go as well as his first and he departed by mutual consent after a controversial interview with Piers Morgan where he criticised many aspects of the the club, including now former boss Ten Hag, before joining Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.

Speaking recently to former team-mate Rio Ferdinand on his podcast, Ronaldo made it clear that any United manager must have lofty ambitions and put out a message they are seeking to compete for the Premier League and Champions League, no matter how unrealistic that may be.

He said: "Manchester United, they need to rebuild everything, in my opinion. The coach, they say they cannot compete to win the league and Champions League.

"You cannot say, if you are a Manchester United coach, that you're not going to fight to win the league or Champions League.

"You have to mentally say, 'Listen, maybe we've not got that potential'. But you cannot say that [out loud]. You have to try."
