Ruben Amorim goes off-script during first Sky post-match interview with request to senior Man Utd official

Ruben Amorim goes off-script during first Sky post-match interview with request to senior Man Utd official

Amorim went in a different direction towards the end of his first post-match interview.

Ruben Amorim decided to make a request to a senior official during the closing segment of his first post-match interview as Manchester United manager.

The 39-year-old took charge of United for the first time on Sunday afternoon as they drew 1-1 with Ipswich at Portman Road.

Marcus Rashford scored in the opening 80 seconds for the visitors, before Omari Hutchinson's deflected long-range strike levelled the scores before half-time.

It was a more challenging second half for United, with Ipswich looking the more likely to win the match.

Although there were positive signs for the new manager, particularly the performances of goalkeeper Andre Onana and right wing-back Amad Diallo, the match will have served as something of a learning period for Amorim.

In his post-match interview with Sky Sports, the former Sporting Lisbon boss spoke openly about his side's performance and where they could improve, as well as looking forward to the upcoming weeks and months on the training pitch.

But Amorim surprised everyone around the Sky punditry desk when he made an admission about one thing he had found to be much different in English football compared to his time in Portugal.

He concluded the interview by saying: "I want to say, this week I spoke more than four years at Sporting.

"When you speak too much and you don't win, it's really hard for everybody. I just want to work with my players and nothing more, but I understand it's a different game here."

Amorim added that he will ask United's head of communications, Andrew Ward, to limit his interview engagements moving forwards so that he can focus on the first team squad.

Excitement about Amorim's appointment has been fever-pitch among United fans, with several extended interviews with the new manager being published throughout the last week.

Having seen his team in action for the first time, the Portuguese will want to do exactly as he says and get down to work with a near full contingent of players - something he was unable to do throughout much of the past week due to having many of his players on international duty during the break.

United are next in action on Thursday as they take on Bodo/Glimt in a crucial Europa League tie at Old Trafford.
