Ruben Amorim's five-word comment to Man Utd players speaks volumes as behind-the-scenes footage emerges

Ruben Amorim's five-word comment to Man Utd players speaks volumes as behind-the-scenes footage emerges

Amorim has been meeting United players this week.

Ruben Amorim's five-word comment to one of his Manchester United players speaks volumes ahead of his first match in charge.

Amorim officially took over as Manchester United manager on November 11, pending the final formalities of securing a work permit that would allow him to oversee training sessions.

The Portuguese has spent the first few days of his reign meeting United players that are not on international duty, including Leny Yoro, Mason Mount and Luke Shaw.

Amorim will be expected to hit the ground running quickly at Old Trafford and ensure that his players can adapt to the 3-4-3 system that he is likely to implement.

One of his first tasks will be to ensure United win away at Ipswich Town on November 24 to begin their ascent back up the Premier League table. They currently sit in 13th place despite Ruud van Nistelrooy overseeing Sunday's 3-0 win over Leicester.

But speaking to Shaw and what appears to be Mount in behind-the-scenes footage posted by United's official Twitter account, Amorim stressed the need to fulfil one objective right from the very start of his reign.

He says: "We have to have fun."

Amorim then tells the players: "I'm thrilled to be here."

Meanwhile, former United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has tipped Amorim to take Andre Onana's game to a new level.

Onana has been one of United's stronger performers during what has otherwise been a disappointing season, but Van der Sar thinks he can improve even further.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand's YouTube channel, the Dutchman said: "I trained with him a few times and I saw the talent, the strength, the reaction saves.

"He needed experience and needed to make mistakes, and of course, he made a few at Ajax and also made a few at United, but I think that develops you as a person and as a goalkeeper.

"He's a very strong character, and I think that will help him become one of the very best goalkeepers in the coming years."
