Man United brutally trolled by Newcastle during dismal Carabao Cup defeat

Newcastle United continued their quest for the Carabao Cup after beating Manchester United

Newcastle United savagely trolled Manchester United during their Carabao Cup clash at Old Trafford.

The Magpies arrived at Old Trafford on Wednesday night hoping to get revenge for last season’s final defeat against United at Wembley.

In front of more than 7,000 travelling fans, Newcastle produced a stunning performance as they comfortably beat United 3-0 thanks to goals from Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall and Joe Willock.

Towards the final whistle, it was announced that the attendance for the match was around 72,000, Newcastle took this opportunity to aim a cheeky dig at their opponents.

On social media, Newcastle wrote: “Tonight's attendance at Old Trafford is 72,000. Slightly less now.”

This comes after many United fans vacated their seats and headed for the exits well before the end of the match with their side 3-0 down.

Having been jeered off at half-time, the United players were again met by a chorus of boos when the referee blew the final whistle.

As a result of the defeat, the pressure will start to increase on manager Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman said after the match: “We know this is not good enough. We have to take responsibility for it, I have to take responsibility for it. We don't give the performance, so I feel sorry for the fans. It is below our standards and we have to put it right.

“We have to recover from it but we have to quickly recover - Saturday is the next game (against Fulham), and we have to raise our standards. This is not good enough.”

United will have the chance to put things right this weekend when they take on Fulham at Craven Cottage in the Premier League on Saturday.
