Viktor Gyokeres’ potential move to Manchester United may take an unexpected twist as new information has emerged.
Gyokeres, 26, is attracting interest from several top clubs, including United, with the Swede having scored 24 goals in just 21 appearances for Sporting Club this season.
The forward thrived under now-United boss Ruben Amorim during his successful spell in the Portuguese capital.

The former Coventry City marksman could leave the Primeira Liga champions this summer although a January move could also be on the cards.
However, Amorim previously discussed the potential of signing his former players in a press conference before arriving at Old Trafford in November.
“I will not sign any Sporting player at Man United in January… then, what happens in the summer, I don't know.”

“Sporting players are good players,” he added.
“We will see what happens…”
But he did not rule out signing any Sporting players in the summer of 2025.
Wednesday’s edition of A Bola [via Sport Witness] has claimed that United are one of ‘the most’ interested parties.

The article also explained how Gyokeres has a €100m (£83m) release clause in his contract, which could be enough to sign him in the winter market.
However, it goes on to explain how Sporting are ‘open to negotiating a sale next summer’ for a reduced price of €70 (£58m) plus bonuses.
Of course, the prospect of paying €30m (£25m) less will likely appeal to United.

However, there may be a risk involved if they choose to wait.
Newcastle United has already contacted the player’s agent with Football Transfers, explaining that “talks [are] ongoing” regarding a possible switch to the Northeast.
On Monday, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg posted on X to explain how “Manchester United have now made initial concrete talks regarding Viktor Gyokeres” but added how the club may have to sell players first.
To add, the journalist revealed how “Manchester City also intensified their effort in recent days”.

A deal with United would arguably make more sense given the fact that Gyokeres may find it too difficult to compete with Erling Haaland for a starting spot in Pep Guardiola’s side.
If he were to join United, he would compete against Joshua Zirkzee and Ramus Hojlund for a place in Amorim’s side.
