Paul Scholes did not hesitate when naming the best atmosphere he played in for Manchester United – and it may not be where you’d expect.
Scholes, 50, was one of the best midfielders of his generation and finished his career with 25 trophies – including 11 Premier League titles from his 714 appearances for United.
During his career, both for the Red Devils and England, he played at some of Europe’s most iconic stadiums, having appeared at the likes of Anfield, Wembley and the Santiago Bernabeu – just to name a few.

However, it was an English stadium which he revealed had the best atmosphere he had ever played in for Man United.
“We [Man United] loved going to places where everyone is baying for blood,” he said on beIN Sports in 2018.
“It’s [Elland Road] brilliant,” he added.

“You’d go to Leeds, I know it’s on a domestic point of view… (they were) psychopaths! Absolutely mental fans.”
Of course, aside from Liverpool and Manchester City, Leeds are one of United’s most fierce rivals, so the atmosphere undoubtedly ramps up when the Red Devils visit West Yorkshire.
During his playing days, Scholes faced the Whites in 16 matches, coming away as a winner on ten occasions.

The former United midfielder’s last appearance against the now Championship side came in February 2004 as he scored in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
Leeds were relegated from the Premier League that season and spent 13 years in the second tier before finally being promoted back to the top-flight in 2020.
In December 2020, Leeds visited Old Trafford for their first league clash against Man United since 2004, but they went home disappointed.
The home side put in an excellent showing, going 2-0 up in just three minutes thanks to a Scott McTominay double before Bruno Fernandes and Victor Lindelof put the Red Devils 4-0 up after just 37 minutes.

Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas netted for Leeds on either side of Daniel James’ (now of Leeds) goal for Man United to make the scoreline more respectable as the game finished 6-2.
In the return fixture in April of 2021, the sides played out a dull 0-0 draw.
