Former Premier League manager David Moyes was involved in an ‘awkward’ exchange during Match of the Day 2 on Sunday evening.
Moyes, 61, was part of the BBC’s broadcast alongside presenter Mark Chapman, 51, and Alan Shearer, 54.
The Scot has been without a coaching role since he left West Ham United at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Since then, he has appeared on several podcasts, radio and TV shows, allowing him the chance to provide expert analysis of the games.
Although highlights of Man United and Everton – two of Moyes’ former clubs - featured on the broadcast, the ‘awkward’ exchange happened during a conversation about Chelsea’s squad depth.
“You look at the changes he [Enzo Maresca] can make in Europe, and look, they’re in the conference league…so they can [rest players],” said Chapman when discussing why Chelsea looked ‘fresh’ compared to Aston Villa during the Blues’ 3-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.

But Moyes was quick to jump to the defence of the European competition, having led West Ham to a Conference League triumph in June 2023.
“What’s up with the Conference League?” joked Moyes before Shearer and Chapman burst into laughter.
“Anyhow…that was a bit awkward,” added Chapman before moving on.

Of course, all three members of the team saw the funny side of the light hearted exchange.
After the 2-1 victory against Fiorentina in Prague, Czech Republic, which secured Moyes’ first-ever major trophy as a manager, he referred to it as the “best day in management”, speaking immediately after the game.
Fans also weighed in with their thoughts on social media.
One said: “Looks like he didn’t find it funny at all, his biggest achievement being laughed at.”

Another added: “What a pundit Moyes is, more air time needed.”
A third commented: “Well done, Moyes, just shows how these presenters actually feel when you confront their ignorance & bias.”
With a fourth saying: “Moyes is class on punditry.”
It is still unclear whether Moyes will return to management, but he has been linked with a return to his former club, Everton, according to the Mirror, having previously managed the Toffees for 11 years before departing for Manchester United in 2013.

The 61-year-old discussed the prospect of a return to a coaching role when speaking on The Overlap brought to you by Sky Bet in November.
"No case of that [wanting to get back into management] at all, but I’m starting to think about it," he said.
"For three months I’ve been great, because I wanted the time off.
"It doesn’t sound a lot to say you’ve had 60 games last year, but when you’re the manager and you’re coming back on a Thursday night from Belgium or France, you’re saying, ‘My goodness, I’ve got to get the team prepared – I’ve got to get all the work done.'"
