Manchester United are on the verge of completing their first signing of the January window, according to reports, with the player set to undergo medical tests in the coming days.
Unless there are outgoings, it looks like United will avoid spending a significant amount of cash in January.
In short, the Reds must sell players to avoid breaking profit and sustainability rules. The sale of Marcus Rashford, a homegrown player, would count as 100 percent profit on their balance sheet as he continues to be linked with a move.

But it appears Ruben Amorim has already admitted defeat in regards to January additions. "We don’t have that possibility in January,’ he said after their 2-0 defeat to Newcastle on Monday.
He added: "It is not the case that I am arriving here and can spend a lot of money changing all the team. You know the situation so there’s not a lot of point talking about it."
Earlier this week. a report from The Daily Mail suggested United have tentatively identified Nuno Mendes, Victor Osimhen and Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens as potential targets.

But in to regards to concrete talks, it looks like highly-rated Cerro Porteno left-back Diego Leon will be the first player to arrive in January.
Last month, it emerged that United were in 'advanced negotiations' to sign the 17-year-old amid interest from a host of top European clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester City.
A transfer fee of $4 million [£3.1m] has been agreed, according to journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, who claims several aspects of a deal have been discussed, including talks over add-ons and the player’s economic rights.
Several days later, Cerro Porteno president Juan José Zapag appeared to confirm that Leon’s move to Old Trafford would be made official soon.

And now, journalist Bruno Pont has reported that Renato Bittar, Leon’s agent, has said that the Paraguayan defender will travel to Manchester in the coming days to undergo his medical.
Leon, who is widely regarded as one of South America's most promising talents, has impressed during his breakthrough campaign in the Paraguayan Primera Division.
After scoring the winner on his competitive debut back in August, he has since become a first-team regular, making 19 appearances in all competitions.
