Man Utd fans stunned after seeing how much Patrick Dorgu will earn at the club

Manchester United are set to confirm the capture of Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu but his wages have caused a stir.

Manchester United are finally set complete a significant first-team January signing and fans have been left surprised by the salary they are paying.

Ruben Amorim's struggling side have been crying out for new recruits and have brought in 17-year-old Paraguayan Diego Leon, though he will not move to the club until the summer after he turns 18.

But the Red Devils are believed to be nearing a deal for another left-back, with Lecce's Patrick Dorgu set to join the club.

Amorim has been desperate to sign a player who is capable of playing the left wing-back in his preferred system and Dorgu, a teammate of Rasmus Hojlund's with the Denmark national team, is the preferred choice.

On Tuesday evening Fabrizio Romano confirmed a verbal agreement with Lecce had been reached, with United paying a minimum of €30 million and a further €5 million for the 20-year-old if certain bonuses are met.

Dorgu, who will compete with the likes of Diogo Dalot, is poised to pen a long-term deal until 2030.

According to SoloLecce, via Sport Witness, Dorgu will earn £1.6 million per year for his first four years at Old Trafford - therefore netting around £30,000 per week.

However, it's claimed that those terms will improve to £2.5 million per year (£50,000-a-week) for the final year of his deal.

And the reported salary has pleasantly surprised United supporters, who have been used to seeing their club splash out ridiculous fees in recent times.

One fan on X commented: "Finally players getting realistic salaries. Unlike that bloke on 300k."

A second said: "If this was Woodward and co he'd be getting 150k lol."

A third wrote: "The salary is okay and now we are acting like a good club."

A fourth user said: "Really good that is."

A fifth person stated: "Those wages are peanuts but we’re apparently over paying."

The arrival of Dorgu is set to end Tyrell Malacia's time at United - with the Dutchman said to have attracted interest from a number of clubs.

After securing the services of Antony on loan, La Liga side Real Betis are attempting to snap up his injury-hit teammate on a temporary basis, as per reports.
