Ruben Amorim has decided his top Man Utd transfer target and is desperate for move to happen this month

Ruben Amorim has decided his top Man Utd transfer target and is desperate for move to happen this month

Amorim has little to work with in January - but has already identified his top target.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has decided on his top transfer target for January, according to a new report.

United will have little money to spend this month, the Portuguese boss has said, as a result of the club's Financial Fair Play (FFP) situation.

Any significant incomings will be relying on whether the Red Devils can sell players, with Marcus Rashford among those linked with a move away from the club.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, AC Milan are set to approach United with a loan offer for Rashford and would be willing to pay his reported £350,000-per-week salary.

Such a move would allow Amorim to bring in a replacement, with reports from The Athletic's David Ornstein claiming that he is prepared to launch a loan move to sign Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain.

But Kolo Muani is not said to be the top target for United in January - although one of his PSG team-mates is.

According to The Telegraph, Amorim wants to make left-back Nuno Mendes his first signing as manager at Old Trafford.

Mendes was handed his professional debut by Amorim at Sporting Lisbon before being sold to PSG in the summer of 2022.

His current deal at Parc des Princes runs until 2026 but he is yet to agree terms over a fresh contract. The Telegraph add that PSG are 'hopeful' that he will decide to remain at the club.

The 22-year-old can play at left-back and left wing-back and has established himself as one of the most promising players in his position in European football - but United will be concerned by his injury record.

As per Transfermarkt, the Portugal international has missed a staggering 58 games through injury since the beginning of the 2022/23 season, with 44 of those games being missed due to a severe hamstring injury.

The reports surrounding Mendes follow claims from RMC Sport's Fabrice Hawkins that Mendes was 'not indifferent' to a move to Old Trafford - potentially opening the door for Amorim to swoop.
