Man Utd 'reject clause' in Mason Greenwood transfer as forward edges closer to exit

Man Utd 'reject clause' in Mason Greenwood transfer as forward edges closer to exit

Manchester United have turned down a proposed clause in a deal to offload Mason Greenwood, reports claim.

Manchester United have reportedly rejected a clause proposed in a potential deal for Mason Greenwood.

Greenwood has interest from a whole host of clubs across Europe after resuming his football career away from United.

Following an internal review concluding that he would not remain at Old Trafford after charges were dropped, he spent last season on loan at Getafe in La Liga, finding the net 10 times in 36 appearances.

Although he still has a contract until 2025, United are keen to offload Greenwood permanently for a substantial fee this season.

Clubs in Spain, Turkey and Italy have all been linked and recent reports claim Lazio are pushing to sign the 22-year-old.

The Roma outfit appear to be leading the race for Greenwood and according to Gianluca Di Marzio, lodged an opening bid of €20 million for him.

Lazio also agreed to including a sell-on clause which would see United pocket 50 per cent of any future transfer fee.

But the offer was knocked back by United, who are hopeful of getting £30 million for him.

Lazio want a replacement for Felipe Anderson, who is returning to his native Brazil with Palmeiras after his deal expired.

They view Greenwood as a top target but may well have to pay a record transfer fee under owner Claudio Lotito.

A separate report from Calciomercato states that Lazio have proposed including goalkeeper Christos Mandas as part of the deal.

The club value the Greek shostopper at €20 million, though United aren't too sure that it is a fair valuation.

Lazio are still in regular conversation with United over Greenwood, but Juventus are also keeping tabs.

New owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe had opened the door to a "fresh decision" involving Greenwood after his 25 per cent stake was confirmed, but everything point towards him moving on.
