Man Utd fans think they’re winning it all as footage of ‘Ruben Amorim ball’ against Man City goes viral

Man Utd fans think they’re winning it all as footage of ‘Ruben Amorim ball’ against Man City goes viral

Ruben Amorim's Sporting played Manchester City off the park in their Champions League clash.

'Amorim ball' was in full flow as Ruben Amorim's Sporting played Manchester City off the park in their stunning Champions League victory.

Sporting beat Man City 4-1 in Tuesday's Champions League clash in Portugal as Manchester United fans claimed Pep Guardiola was 'rattled' in the process.

The Premier League champions opened the scoring through Phil Foden as the hosts replied with four unanswered goals, including a Viktor Gyokeres hat-trick.

Maximiliano Araujo bagged his side's other goal, capping off a sensational team move straight from the kick-off.

A video of the team move from the stands shows the extent of the exquisite build-up as it took just eight passes to get into Man City's box and score.

Needless to say, Man United fans loved what they saw witnessed but some supporters expressed their concerns over the style of play specific to the current squad.

One X user wrote: "We don’t have the technicians and athletes to regularly play this way."

A second said: "A number 8 who can dribble and carry ball not just throwing away long balls is the need."

A third added: "Beautiful, this is what you call football."

A fourth commented: "Look at the weight of the passes and the agility. I doubt our players can keep this up for more than a game."

Another praised: "The Premier League is not ready for Amorim ball."

Speaking after the result, incoming Man United boss Amorim warned his new side that they cannot play the same way as Sporting do.

"We cannot transport one reality to another," he said. "United cannot play the way we play, they cannot be so defensive. Of course it’s good to beat City. But I’ll be living in a different world, we’ll have to start from a different point."

Amorim will continue to take charge of Sporting until this month's international break.

He will oversee his first Man United game when they face Ipswich Town on November 24.
