Huge European club line up shock move for Man Utd star Kobbie Mainoo

A huge European club have lined up a move for Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo, it has been claimed.

A huge European club have lined up a move for Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo, it has been claimed.

Upon determining Erik ten Hag would lead the club into next season, the United hierarchy have turned their attention to the transfer window.

On Friday it emerged that United had made an opening £35million initial offer for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

While the bid, which also included £8million in add-ons, was viewed as unacceptable by Everton, Branthwaite is said to be one of United’s priority targets ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window.

Indeed, United will be looking to make several additions to their squad. However, one player they will be reluctant to lose is academy graduate and England star Mainoo.

The teenager was United’s breakout star this term, and according to reports in Belgium, his performances have attracted the interest of La Liga giants Barcelona.

United officials are allegedly aware of Barcelona’s interest and have reportedly opened talks with the player over a new contract.

Mainoo’s representatives are said to be asking for an extension to his current deal, which has three years to run, as well as a significant wage increase.

Upon Mainoo making his debut for England in March, Ten Hag said: “I thought it was very good, but we are not surprised. We have seen what he is capable of, that he can very quickly adapt to high levels. It looks very natural.

“We are very happy for him and of course a little bit proud. I would say very proud.

“It’s great for the academy of Manchester United that they bring up a player so young going into the national team. That is a big compliment for the whole club.

“I think definitely in the first place for himself because he did it.

“But also for all the ones who worked with him during his time in the academy, so it’s very good news for Manchester United.”
