Man Utd youngster Harry Amass' interview from pre-season goes viral as Jonny Evans decision is made

Man Utd youngster Harry Amass' interview from pre-season goes viral as Jonny Evans decision is made

Amass impressed in pre-season but the 17-year-old has yet to make his senior debut.

An interview with Harry Amass from Manchester United's pre-season tour of the United States is going viral ahead of the club's Premier League clash against Brentford.

United are going through an injury crisis at present, especially at the back. In fact, Erik ten Hag will be without five defenders for this weekend's must-win game at Old Trafford.

Harry Maguire is set to be out for "a few weeks" after he picked up a knock in their goalless draw against Aston Villa, while Noussair Mazraoui will be sidelined for several weeks after undergoing minor heart surgery.

But arguably the biggest dilemma for Ten Hag is the club's lack of options at left-back, as Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw continue to recover from long-term injuries.

Diogo Dalot, who is a recognised right-back, has filled in for Shaw and Malacia for much of the season.

But a report from the Mirror suggests Ten Hag is 'ready to deploy' 36-year-old Jonny Evans as an emergency left-back for Saturday's clash against Brentford.

The reaction to Evans' potential position swap has been noticeable, with many bringing up teenage left-back Harry Amass, who impressed for United in their pre-season summer tour.

The 17-year-old started all three of their friendlies in the United States and looked comfortable in possession, especially against Real Betis, when he showcased his ability in forward areas.

Ten Hag, however, believes Amass is not ready for the first-team as he 'needs more time to prepare for the level of physicality at the top level', according to GiveMeSport.

Amid talk around Amass' lack of first-team action, an interview with the 17-year-old from this summer's pre-season tour is doing the rounds on social media.

As you can from the footage above, Amass points out that if you're good enough, then age doesn't matter. "It's what United Stands for," he added. "Age doesn't matter in this game."

Here's how fans on social media have reacted to the news that Evans could start an emergency left-back for the game against Brentford.

One said: "Harry Amass, the best fullback prospect in the country, is sitting right there waiting for an opportunity yet our head coach is planning on using Victor Lindelof or Jonny Evans there instead. Never seen a more risk averse coward unfitting of being Manchester United manager."

A second wrote: "For someone who is only worried about the future, it seems strange for Ten Hag to refuse to give one of the best left-back prospects in the country a chance."

A third commented: "Man like LVG would've been rang Amass. That's the United way. Giving youth with quality a chance," and a fourth wrote: "So when will Amass play?"

A fifth added: "What’s the issue putting Amass in for a game, he’s trained loads with the first team so will be familiar with the roll, it’s not like we are on some fantastic run of form for him to come in and jeopardise, will have experience around him to help, just seems like a no brainer."

It has also been suggested that Lisandro Martinez would move across to left-back for the clash against Brentford, with Jonny Evans and Matthijs De Ligt forming a partnership at centre-back.
