Man Utd 'activate' emergency plan to sign ex-Chelsea star after devastating Lisandro Martinez injury news

Manchester United are looking at signing an ex-Chelsea player following the injury news to Lisandro Martinez.

Manchester United have 'activated' an emergency plan to sign an ex-Chelsea star after the devastating Lisandro Martinez injury news.

Man United suffered a bruising 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Their defeat was compounded by the injury to Martinez, who was forced off in the second-half.

He was reduced to tears after being stretched off.

An update has been provided on Martinez after he suffered a suspected knee injury.

Speaking after the game, Ruben Amorim said: "We are going to see in the next days but I think it’s a serious situation. Not just a great player but a strong character in the dressing room.

"In this moment, it’s hard on us, but now it’s time for us to help Licha, like he helps us every day. When you are a player, you know when it’s serious.

"Let’s hope for better days for him and we are here like I said to help him in this difficult moment."

Man United could re-enter the market for a new centre-back, having already signed Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven.

According to reports in Spain via Football 365, Amorim is eyeing a move for Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen, who has emerged as 'one of the most interesting options for Man United'.

Per the report, Amorim believes 'his profile would fit perfectly into his defensive scheme'.

Christensen 'could seriously consider the possibility of a change of scenery' and Amorim 'believes that he could bring experience, solvency and stability to a team that has suffered in the defensive area through the season'.

Barca are 'open to his departure if a good offer arrives' with reports previously claiming they would accept around £12.5 million as the La Liga side 'still needs income to balance its accounts'.

Christensen graduated from Chelsea's youth academy then broke into the first-team before signing for Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.

He's played just one game across all competitions this season.
