Fans convinced Man Utd star is 'perfect fit' and will save Ruben Amorim millions

Fans convinced Man Utd star is 'perfect fit' and will save Ruben Amorim millions

The United faithful were impressed with the player's performance.

Manchester United fans think a current player could save the club ‘millions’ after he impressed during their win over Bodø/Glimt in the Europa League.

Ruben Amorim, 39, took charge of his first game at Old Trafford and received a warm reception from the United fans inside the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.

Amorim’s side got off to a dream start when Alejandro Garnacho took advantage of a Glimt defensive error by tapping home from close range inside one minute.

However, the away side fought back and were level through Håkon Evjen on 19 minutes after the 24-year-old curled a stunning effort beyond Andre Onana in the United net.

Just four minutes later, the Norwegian side went ahead after a cute finish from Philip Zinckernagel.

But Rasmus Hojlund, who started in place of Marcus Rashford, controlled Noussair Mazraoui’s cross before finishing astutely to send the teams in at the break level at 2-2.

Hojlund put United ahead with his second goal of the evening on 50 minutes, causing fans to even suggest he could be the ‘answer’ to their lack of goal threat which has been apparent so far this season.

The Red Devils have been linked with in-form Sporting Club striker Viktor Gyökeres, who has netted 24 times in 20 appearances for the Lisbon-based side.

The striker, who was Amorim’s first choice while he was Sporting Boss, would cost around £70.7m according to Sporting News.

But if Hojlund could continue his form, this would save the club a hefty amount.

Fans gave their thoughts on social media.

One said: “Who needs Gyokeres when we have Hojlund.”

Another added: “Amorim turning Hojlund to Gyokeres instead of buying him.”

With a third saying: "No sane Manchester United fan would want Gyokeres when we already have Hojlund btw."

A fourth suggested: "Hojlund might actually be our Gyokeres."

A fifth explained: "Hojlund’s a proper 9. United doesn’t need Gyokeres. Nurture the prospect."

The 3-2 victory sees United to 12th place in the 36-team group stage.

They return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon when will play host to Sean Dyche's Everton in what will be Amorim's first league game at Old Trafford.
