Man United fans turn on one player after dismal Champions League elimination

Manchester United have been knocked out of the Champions League

Manchester United fans have turned on one player after the Red Devils' dismal Champions League campaign came to an end.

On Tuesday night, United welcomed German giants Bayern Munich to Old Trafford as they looked to salvage their Champions League dream.

However, Erik ten Hag’s men's progress in Europe’s premier club competition was halted after FC Copenhagen recorded a 1-0 win against Turkish side Galatasaray.

Meanwhile, United fell to a 1-0 defeat as Frenchman Kingsley Coman netted the winner for Bayern in the 70th minute.

Coman found himself unmarked inside the penalty area as he latched onto Jamal Musiala’s pass before cooly putting the ball into the back of the net.

After the goal and United’s elimination, United fans took to social media to put the blame on goalkeeper Andre Onana.

One said: “Onana single-handedly ended our UCL campaign time to sell I’ve had enough.”

Another tweeted: “I hope we sell Onana real soon. He cost us moving to the round of 16, he conceded too many goals since this season began.”

A third fan added: “Someone please tell me. What was Onana doing there?”

Someone else wrote: “I know it’s not down to him but what was Onana doing there.”

United fan and YouTuber Mark Goldbridge said: “Replacing De Gea with Onana has cost the club over 100 million....50 on the keeper and 50 on dropping out of Europe. Shocking decision.”

Onana has been under intense pressure ever since the start of the season after he produced a string of questionable performances.

As a result of their defeat against Bayern, United finished bottom of Group A after collecting just four points from a possible 18.

This weekend, they will be back in Premier League action as they travel to Anfield to take on current league leaders and arch-rivals Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
