Overnight, heavy snow hit parts of the north west and there were fears the adverse weather conditions could lead to the match being postponed.
A Safety Advisory Group reviewed the situation at 9am and then deferred the verdict to 11:45am - when it was confirmed that the outcome of safety meetings assessing the weather and travel conditions was that the game could go ahead as planned.
