Wout Weghorst could make the biggest move of his career since leaving Manchester United in 2023.
Weghorst struck from the bench in the Netherlands opening Euro 2024 fixture against Poland with an 83rd minute strike which won them the game on Sunday.
Less than two years earlier, the Dutch striker scored a dramatic brace in the final moments of their 2022 World Cup quarter-final against Argentina, equalising the match which Argentina won on penalties.

And one of the top clubs in Europe has noticed Weghorst’s talents and is reportedly considering making a bid.
Dutch giants Ajax are reported to be interested in the move, with the striker believed to be available for a cut price deal from current club Burnley.
Weghorst has one year left in his contract with the Lancashire club, which he joined from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in January 2022.

However, after failing to avoid relegation from the Premier League in 2023/24, the 31-year-old is believed to be eager to leave Burnley to join another top-flight team.
Ajax suffered their worst season this century in 2023/24, finishing fifth, 35 points behind Eredivise winners PSV Eindhoven.
Therefore, in an attempt to reduce their wage bill and shake up their attack, Weghorst may be brought in to replace players like former Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn and former Arsenal player Chuba Akpom.
And if the move is confirmed, then Weghorst could be set for a reunion with former club Manchester United, who he made 31 appearances for during a six-month loan, in the Europa League.

Despite finishing eighth in the Premier League, their lowest since the competition was founded in 1992, United qualified for the 2024/25 Europa League after beating local rivals Manchester City in the FA cup final.
Ajax on the other hand, will need to play through the Europa League qualifiers to book themselves a place in the competition next season.
Weghorst struggled at United, scoring just two goals, meaning the loan move was not made permanent.

Upon returning to Burnley, Vincent Kompany saw no need for the striker, and sent him back to the Bundesliga on loan, where he scored seven goals in 30 appearances.
