Vincent Kompany could beat Pep Guardiola to one of his long-term targets once he is appointed Bayern Munich manager.
A deal is said to be close for the Belgian to take the reins at the Allianz Arena and replace Thomas Tuchel.
A compensation package still needs to be agreed but Kompany, Bayern's ninth choice for the post, is expected to be their next manager.

It will be Kompany's third managerial job, having first taken charge of boyhood club Anderlecht before achieving promotion with Burnley.
The Clarets were relegated from the Premier League in his first season coaching in the top flight, winning just five games.
But his way of working has impressed Bayern chiefs and he is now set to get the nod.

And Fabrizio Romano has word on a potential first summer signing for Kompany.
Bayern are believed to have added RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo to their transfer wishlist.
The Spaniard has been a long-time target for Guardiola and City, regularly being linked to a move to the Etihad Stadium.

A summer switch has also been touted, with City turning their attentions to Olmo after seeing West Ham's Lucas Paqueta charged with betting breaches that could result in a lengthy suspension if found guilty of alleged spot-fixing.
Barcelona are also said to be keen on bringing Olmo back to the Catalonia, where he spent time in their famed youth academy.
Olmo, who scored eight times last season, is believed to have a €60 million release clause in his contract this summer and Bayern's sporting director Max Eber knows him well from his time at Leipzig.
According to BILD, Kompany has agreed a three-year deal to become Bayern boss and the liks of Floribert Ngalula, Bram Geers and Rene Maric will form part of his staff in Bavaria.
