Ruben Dias snaps at reporter in awkward post-match interview after Liverpool defeat

Ruben Dias snaps at reporter in awkward post-match interview after Liverpool defeat

The Man City defender did not hold back.

Ruben Dias was involved in an ‘awkward’ exchange with a journalist following Manchester City’s 2-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Dias started the game, having previously been struggling with injury for several weeks.

But his return was not enough to change City’s fortunes as Liverpool ran out comfortable winners to go nine points clear of second place Arsenal and 11 points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s team, who dropped to fifth in the Premier League earlier on Sunday following Chelsea’s 3-0 win against Aston Villa.

"Our analysis is easy right now; we have Nottingham [Forest next], and we want to win, and that's what's on our mind," Dias said while speaking to ViaPlay.

"The only thing in our minds right now is we want to win against Nottingham.

“Obviously, at the moment, it's not easy to come here, always a difficult stadium to visit. And the team showed a lot of character, so nothing is on our mind right now."

When the interviewer pressed Dias with further questions on how the City players reacted and communicated after the defeat, the defender became visibly irritated at the journalist.

"You know that you're talking to one of the players of one of the teams in the world that has won the most in recent years?” asked Dias.

"So maybe have a think about that and be sure that we know how to deal with it."

The reporter then tried to defuse the situation by admitting that Guardiola’s side win a lot of games.

He then asked Dias how the team will aim to turn their fortunes around in the coming weeks.

"Easy,” said the centre-back.

“Next game. One game at a time. Nothing else.

"These are the ones [games] that everyone wants to play, these ones we will always remember and these difficult circumstances for the stadium itself and for the moment we're going through.

"This is when you see the warriors you have next to you."

The defeat at Anfield was the Premier League champions’ seventh game in a row without a win.

Next up, City will play host to Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, 4 December, before a trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on Saturday, 7 December.

Both games are winnable, but given their torrid form, it is hard to predict what type of performance they will put in.
