Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk has agreed with his manager Jurgen Klopp when picking a surprising name for Liverpool's 'winner of the season.'
The Merseyside club got Klopp's farewell tour off to the perfect start at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final, as they defeated Chelsea 1-0 in extra time.
The potential history-making quadruple could still be on the cards as Klopp's men as they cruised past Southampton at Anfield to progress to the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Following the game, Van Dijk was quick to single out Gomez for his exceptional performances as he looks to have finally put his injury woes behind him at the perfect time for Liverpool.
“He did outstanding, big credit to him for him to perform at left-back, right-back, center-half, six and does it on the high level,” Van Dijk said after the victory.
“I'm just pleased for him and knowing what we have been through together a couple of years ago. And for him to be playing on that level is something he should get maybe more credit for.

“But he is a very close friend of mine and he is a very good player and has been outstanding. Maybe one of the players of the season this year," The Dutchman proclaimed.
This opinion is also shared by Klopp who has also hailed Gomez for his performances in 2024.
"He's the winner of the season for sure, he is back to his best," Klopp said.
Despite winning almost everything available to him at Liverpool, Gomez is still yet to score a professional goal and the defender's woes in front of goal have resulted in Liverpool fans shouting 'shoot' whenever the defender receives the ball.

Whilst this is done in good spirits, Klopp has called for fans to stop the chanting and let Gomez play without that weight on his shoulders.
“The way he played is absolutely crazy," Klopp said. "But can I ask the people, as funny as it is... shoot. Leave the boy alone, one day he will shoot, he will find the moment himself.
“If he shoots from 40 yards just because the people are calling then I will really get a bit angry but what a boy, what a game. Absolutely exceptional," Klopp concluded.
