Joe Gomez "very high" on Al Ittihad shortlist as Fabrizio Romano reveals Liverpool transfer stance

Joe Gomez "very high" on Al Ittihad shortlist as Fabrizio Romano reveals Liverpool transfer stance

Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have already moved to the Saudi Pro League.

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has emerged as a key target for Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Jurgen Klopp has already lost midfield duo Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the Middle East this summer, leaving the Reds stretched in the middle of the park.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah has also been the subject of interest from All Itihad, with Nuno Espírito Santo's side reportedly preparing a £129m package to help land the Egyptian.

In turn, the Merseyside outfit have added midfield trio Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo for around £115 million.

Klopp will be desperate not to lose any other players as Liverpool look to improve on last season's rather disappointing fifth-placed finish.

However, in concerning news for Liverpool supporters, Gomez could follow former teammate Fabinho to Al Ittiahd. That's according to Romano, who has claimed that the club are keen on the 26-year-old's 'versatility'.

"Al Ittihad have a shortlist of defenders — Liverpool’s Joe Gomez is very high on that list," Romano tweeted.

"Al Ittihad like Gomez as versatile player who can play anywhere across the back line."

Although Romano confirmed that Liverpool were against a sale this late in the transfer window.

"Liverpool insist they’ve no intention to sell important players in the final days", the Italian added.

Gomez played a crucial role in Liverpool's 2-1 comeback against Newcastle on Sunday, after he was brought on for Luis Diaz after Virgil van Dijk was shown a red card around the half hour mark.

Klopp praised Gomez's performance after the game, stating: "Joey [Gomez] didn't play for a while, but he came on and did well. We settled and played better afterwards."

Meanwhile, Andy Robertson waxed lyrical about the Englishman's display, explaining that he calmed the team down.

"I thought Joey was absolutely outstanding," said Robertson after the game.

"I thought he came on in a difficult moment, we are 1-0 down, we just went down to ten men, the crowd are up and it’s only looking like it’s going one way. But Joey calmed us down."
