Liverpool may be able to secure the signing of Alexander Isak courtesy of a swap deal with Newcastle.

Sweden striker Isak is widely reported to be determined to leave Newcastle and join Liverpool.

Newcastle, however, have so far stood firm and rejected a £110m bid from the Reds earlier this month.

Indeed, the Magpies have insisted they have no intention of allowing Isak to leave, with the 25-year-old having racked up 62 goals in his 109 appearances for the club.

One potential way Liverpool may be able to tempt Newcastle into a sale is by including players in any deal for Isak.

Indeed, Newcastle have registered an interest in Joe Gomez in the past, with the England international having admitted he could have left Liverpool last summer after Howe’s side had made a £45m offer for him.

“It was definitely for real,” Gomez said in November. “My focus was always on the club but I know how blessed I am to be here and I will be 10 years [at Liverpool] in the summer. I don’t take that for granted.

“It is the best club in the world in my eyes and it was quickly a case of adapting and getting into the swing of things. It was good to put it to bed. That is football. I am a big believer in focusing on the present.

“To be somewhere 10 years and not have any blips would not be natural which probably speaks about my ambition. I love being here. I love the club.”

Gomez may be a potential option for Newcastle, amid the Reds being on course to sign teenage centre-back Giovanni Leoni from Parma. Liverpool are also thought to be keen on Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi.

Elsewhere, Harvey Elliott may also be an option for Newcastle, with former Manchester United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown having told Football Insider last month that the England U21 international was of interest to Howe’s side.

Brown said: “Newcastle and Tottenham are the latest names I’ve heard, both of them are going to test the waters and see what it would take to bring him in.”

What has Alexander Isak said about his future?

Isak has not publicly spoken about his future, but his agent spoke out on the player's future iin July n an interview with Saudi Arabian media.

"We are indeed studying and analysing all options, and we may be close to finalising the next step for the player," Gonzalo Gaitan told Saudi newspaper Arriyadiyah. "Without revealing any details regarding whether Isak will transfer or stay with Newcastle."

What is Newcastle's stance?

Earlier this month Eddie Howe admitted "everything is in play" with Isak, but the Newcastle United manager added he wanted players that "really want to play" for the club.

He added that "there are discussions going on all the time that I'm not party to".

"I think everything is in play," Howe said in a press conference on Saturday. "I've said many times he is contracted to us. He is our player. The club make the decision on his future.

"I don't know what that will be. Of course I have a preferred outcome. I want the best and the strongest squad possible, but I also want players that really want to play for this football club."
