Microphone picks up what Curtis Jones said as he left Liverpool press conference and it's got fans talking

Curtis Jones appeared to make a comment about Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Curtis Jones appeared to make a comment about Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold as he left a press conference in Pittsburgh.

Arne Slot will take charge of his first public game as Liverpool manager on Friday, when the Reds take on Real Betis in the first leg of their three-game tour of the United States.

The 45-year-old, who joined the Premier League club in May after a successful stint at Feyenoord, attended a press conference on Thursday ahead of the game.

Here, he was asked about a range of subjects, including the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has been linked with a big-money move to Real Madrid this summer.

When approached with a question on the subject regarding Trent's contract, Slot said: “My answer would probably be a bit boring. I think it’s the same answer you’ve heard in the last five, six or seven years."

He added: “Contract situations are not discussed at this place. But just keep trying [to ask the question], I would say.”

Alexander-Arnold's current deal is due to expire in 2025 and Liverpool are understandably desperate to tie him down to fresh terms.

In fact, the club are reportedly in discussions with his camp over a new deal, with the hope of extending until 2028 or 2029.

Curtis Jones, who joined Arne Slot at Thursday's press conference, did not get involved in the discussion around Alexander-Arnold's future.

But as he walked off stage, the midfielder appeared to say: "I thought they were going to ask me about Trent."

Here's how fans on social media reacted to Jones' comment.

One said: "You wouldn't be so relaxed if your mate and best player was about to get off would you?" while another commented: "Oh no."

A third wrote: "He’s laughing about it, seems to me as though he’s signed a new deal and we’re just waiting to announce it."

A fourth said: "Trent is lowkey leaving," and a fifth added: "He’s laughing because he knows he's going to be the only scouser left."

Jones also provided an insight into how Liverpool's style of play could become more possession-based under Arne Slot this season.

"He's amazing," Curtis said when asked about Slot. "It's probably the happiest I've been in terms of a style of play that suits me.

"It's a clear plan in training and he's fully involved, coaching us a lot. He's big on the finer details. He's got a certain way of playing - he knows it will take time as it's a big change, but him and his staff are chilled about it as they know the quality is all there."

Jones added: "It's always been a hard time, coming around the team as a young lad and I always had a certain way of playing but I had to adapt and change. But that was part of the plan and it was something I can do. But I feel this is more me, I can get on the ball more. I'm excited."

"I feel like my way of playing has been to get on the ball and play, being comfortable on the ball. But then I came around a team that had world-class players and I was played on the wing or up front. T

"he central midfielders were always more runners and disciplined. Those principles are the same but the central midfielder will be more the heart of the team.

"Mo Salah will always get us goals but we need to be comfortable on the ball and be calm in our build-up as a team. We're not in a rush to attack. We need to break teams down and when we give the ball away we can press.

"In the past it was a rush to get the ball back, a bit too direct, up and down, up and down. Now we want to have all the ball and completely kill a team."
