Lionel Messi confirms the club he will end his career with ahead of Copa America

Argentina legend Lionel Messi has spoken about his future.

Lionel Messi has spoken about his future as the Argentina great hints at his retirement plans.

Over the years, Messi has been breaking records left, right and centre as he continues to cement himself as one of the finest footballers of all time.

After clinching the 2022 World Cup with Argentina in Qatar, many fans labelled Messi as the undisputed GOAT of football.

Last summer, the Argentine left Paris Saint Germain as he moved to Major League Soccer side Inter Miami.

Since then, he has managed 25 goals in 29 matches and has also been joined at the club by former teammates Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

At the age of 36, it is no secret that Messi is heading towards the end of his illustrious career.

According to the latest reports, Messi has now confirmed the club where he will retire.

As reported by ESPN Argentina, Messi has said that Inter Miami will be his last club.

He said: “Inter Miami will be my last club, yes. As of today, it’s gonna be my last one.

“I love playing football, I enjoy everything much more because I am aware that every time there’s less and less.”

This may come as a surprise because many expected Messi to finish his career with Argentine side Newell’s Old Boys, the club where he started his career.

Back in 2023, it was reported by El Nacional that Messi will look to return to Newell’s Old Boys when his contract with Inter Miami expires in 2025.

Speaking in March, Messi stated that he will call time on his career when he feels he can no longer help his teammates.

He said on MBC’s Big Time Podcast, as per ESPN: “I know that the moment that I know that I'm not performing, that I'm not enjoying myself, that I'm not helping my teammates.

“I am very self-critical. I know when I am good, when I am bad, when I play well, when I play badly... And when I feel it is time to take that step, I will take it without thinking about age. If I feel good, I will always try to continue competing, because it is what I like and what I know how to do.”
