Jose Mourinho pulls no punches with his assessment of Fenerbahce players in pre-season training

Jose Mourinho pulls no punches with his assessment of Fenerbahce players in pre-season training

Jose is straight to work.

Jose Mourinho has started pre-season preparations ahead of his first season at Fenerbahce since joining the Turkish giants.

The former Man United and Chelsea boss has embarked on his 11th managerial role after being sacked by Roma in January.

Mourinho was linked with a move back to the Premier League as well as the Saudi Pro League but signed a two-year deal to replace Ismail Kartal in Turkey.

Fenerbahce are the country’s most successful side in history but have been playing second-best to rivals Galatasaray as they haven't won a league title since 2014.

The 'Special One' began training with his side this week ahead of the new season, and the Portuguese manager was straight to the point with his players.

While watching on, Mourinho gave his new squad a bit of a reality check with some stern comments from the sidelines.

"That's why we conceded so many goals last year," he said.

“If you want to run, you have to create a solution!”

Fenerbahce conceded 31 goals compared to the 26 of title winners Galatasaray, who finished three points ahead of them with a staggering 102 points.

Mourinho's message must have been getting across, however, as the 61-year-old was heard shouting, "Bravo, bravo" following his messages of instruction.

Fenerbahce could potentially be playing Champions League football next season but will need to progress through the qualifying stages in order to secure their spot in the group stages.

Speaking about their chances, Mourinho admitted this summer’s Euro 2024 will impact his preparation.

He said: “[It is] hard because we have three rounds of qualifying and in Fenerbahce's case, eight players are at the Euros and they are not coming for pre-season before the first round.

"If I go, you know that I like challenges so we are going to fight to be in the Champions League.”

Mourinho added during his unveiling: “I want to work in Turkish football. I want to help the Turkish league. But the most important thing for me is Fenerbahce," he added.
