Jack Wilshere admits he thought '100 per cent' his daughter would die during surgery for rare condition

Jack Wilshere admits he thought '100 per cent' his daughter would die during surgery for rare condition

Jack Wilshere has opened up on his daughter’s health issues.

Jack Wilshere has opened up about the health issues his daughter faced after her first birthday.

The former Arsenal and England midfielder, who made over 190 appearances for the Gunners called time on his career last summer.

Back in June 2017, Wilshere married Andriani Michael and the pair welcomed their daughter Siena, a year later.

However, Wilshere and his family’s life was turned upside down when Siena started suffering from a number of reoccurring health problems.

As per The Mirror, Wilshere said: “We never thought it would be as serious as it was.

“After exercise, we noticed Siena would always have a coughing fit. We were told this could be exercise-induced asthma and other than regular colds and chest infections, there were no other signs.”

He added: “I was at work preparing to travel with the squad when I got the call from Andriani to explain that Siena had a serious heart condition and would need surgery.

“I remember just breaking down, thinking where do we go from here.”

Wilshere’s wife, Adriani said: “I just rang Jack and burst - I fell to the floor as I couldn't believe the news. It was shocking.”

Wilshere went on to admit that their lives were turned upside down.

The 32-year-old continued: “Our lives were turned upside down. My mind was racing to the worst-case scenario – the first thing that came to my mind was that we might lose her.”

When questioned whether he feared the worst, Wilshere simply replied: “100 per cent.”

Wilshere and Adriani are now the ambassadors for the British Heart Foundation as they hope to support children and parents with heart issues.

The former Arsenal man added: “We're supporting the British Heart Foundation because without lifesaving research keeping children’s hearts beating, we might not have Siena here with us today.”
