Frank Lampard is a surprise candidate to become the new head coach of the Canada national team, according to a fresh report.
The Telegraph has claimed that the Canadian Football Federation has placed Lampard on a managerial shortlist ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which they are co-hosting alongside Mexico and the United States.
The former England international has been out of work since an unsuccessful spell as Chelsea’s interim manager at the end of last season.

The publication has claimed Canada want to hold talks with Lampard, while the 45-year-old is keen to return to management should the right opportunity present itself. It remains to be seen whether the Canada job will be attractive to him.
Canada have had Mauro Biello in charge on an interim basis since the departure of John Herdman, who resigned from the post last summer to take over at Toronto FC.
Lampard spent a year in the US at the end of his playing career with New York City FC, but he has never managed overseas.

He was spotted watching England training ahead of March’s friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, while he has also attended Chelsea games while preparing to return to work.
On being out of work Lampard said, via the Telegraph: “I’m enjoying being with the family and looking to get back at some point.
“Hopefully something comes up that feels right for me, I’m keen to get working again but as I reiterate, I’m enjoying family life.

“You love the job. you understand the rigours of it in the modern day. I’ve enjoyed all the clubs I’ve worked with.
“They’ve all been big challenges for different reasons. I enjoy working with players, improving players and the team, so let’s see what comes.”
