Venezuela produce 'world class s***housery' as sprinklers go off after player is shown red for Vini Jr slap

Venezuela produce 'world class s***housery' as sprinklers go off after player is shown red for Vini Jr slap

The match between Venezuela and Brazil had an unusual ending.

Venezuela have been accused of ‘world-class s***housery’ following the controversial ending of their World Cup qualifier with Brazil.

The two sides were level at 1-1 going into the closing stages of the fixture, after Telasco Segovia’s second half strike cancelled out Raphinha’s opener for Brazil.

Vinicius Junior missed the chance to put his country ahead when he missed a penalty just after the hour mark, and it left Venezuela hanging on for a valuable point.

However, as the final whistle approached Venezuela's Alexander González was handed a straight red card for slapping Real Madrid superstar Vinicius.

And it left Venezuela with six minutes to play with ten men.

But just as Brazil were building some pressure in added time, the sprinkler system at Estadio Monumental de Maturin came on and the referee was forced to delay the game until it could be switched off again.

The match finished level, leaving Brazil in third and Venezuela seventh in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying table.

And that left many fans accusing the hosts of switching the system on deliberately in an attempt to help their team hold out.

One fan wrote: "93rd minute, 1-1 in a WC Qualifier. Brazil about to attack again and Venezuela set off the water sprinklers. South American s***housery of the highest order…”

Another agreed: "World class s***housery".

There is no indication that the move was done on purpose, but many fans enjoyed the moment regardless and praised the alleged dark arts.

One simply posted: “Dark arts with a tinge of voodoo.”

But it didn’t please everyone, with one fan writing: “They were doing it to waste time, how shameful.”

It was a disappointing night overall for Vinicius Jr, who did not impress overall on his latest outing for his country as well as missing the crucial spot kick.

Brazil are back in action against Uruguay next week, and Vinicius is then set to return to Madrid to continue his quest for next year’s Ballon D’Or after missing out to Manchester City midfielder Rodri this time round.

The Brazilian netted a hat-trick in his last game for Real Madrid to help them beat Osasuna 4-0.
