Euro 2024 simulated 10000 times and the most likely winners are a huge blow to England

Euro 2024 simulated 10000 times and the most likely winners are a huge blow to England

Can England bring it home?

A machine learning model has simulated the outcome of Euro 2024 10000 times and dealt a huge blow to England as the most likely winners are revealed.

The Euros kick-off in Germany this summer and Gareth Southgate's Three Lions are expected to go all the way after falling short in the last three major tournaments.

England were knocked out of the 2022 World Cup by eventual finalists France and devastatingly lost on penalties to Italy in Euro 2020.

Many have criticised manager Southgate for his negative tactics and believe that given the quality of the squad, England should be winning silverware.

This summer represents a massive opportunity to do that, but if the AI predictor is correct, they'll lose out again.

According to the results, the most likely winners of the tournament are Portugal who have a 15% chance of lifting the trophy.

England place second in the list with a 12% chance of winning followed by foes France who many fans see as England's biggest threat.

The machine learning model also predicted the outcome of each group with England given a 48% chance of finishing first in Group C ahead of opponents Denmark, Slovenia and Serbia.

Whilst an early exit is unlikely to happen, if England do face Portugal in the latter stages of the competition it doesn't bode well for England when you look at their head-to-head record.

In four European Championship game against Portgual they have failed to win any.

However, England have a strong squad these days so you'd expect nothing less than a victory if the nations did square off.

The Three Lions' path to the final this summer would see them face one of the best third placed teams in the Last 16 if they top their group, and a potential semi-final against France.

Southgate is likely to step down at the end of the tournement after almost eight years in charge regardless of what happens.
