England 'facing UEFA charge' after what happened in immediate aftermath of Slovenia draw

England 'facing UEFA charge' after what happened in immediate aftermath of Slovenia draw

England sealed passage to the last 16 of Euro 2024 with a 0-0 draw against Slovenia.

England could reportedly face a UEFA charge after what happened after their 0-0 draw against Slovenia.

On Tuesday night, England successfully sealed their place in the last 16 of Euro 2024.

Heading into the match at the RheinEnergieStadion, England knew a win would secure the top spot in Group C.

However, a poor performance meant they were held to a 0-0 draw by Slovenia.

Thanks to Denmark and Serbia also playing out a 0-0 draw, England advanced as group winners.

After the final whistle, it was spotted that some disgruntled England fans threw objects onto the pitch when Gareth Southgate and the players applauded them.

Now, it has been claimed that England could be charged by UEFA.

As reported by the Daily Mail’s Mike Keegan, who wrote on social media: “Given UEFA’s stance throughout the tournament I’d be very surprised if England do not end up getting charged for the throwing of objects after beer cups were launched at Gareth Southgate last night.”

SPORTbible has contacted UEFA for comment.

When asked about the fans’ reaction, Southgate said during his press conference: “I'm not going to back away from it. The most important thing is the supporters stay with the team.

“I understand the narrative towards me and that's better for the team than it being towards them.”

He added: “But it is creating an unusual environment to operate in. I've not seen any other team qualify and receive similar. I understand it, I'm not going to back away from it, but I'm very proud of the players for how they're operating within it.

“I've lived in this environment for 20 years as a player and coach. We've got to keep ourselves on track and make sure the dressing room is tight.

“I was not going to back away from going over to thank people for coming and giving the support that they did, but I know that this is causing an issue for the group.”

England are set to take on the Netherlands on Sunday evening as they look to secure a place in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024.
