Gareth Southgate’s England future is up in the air after the Euro 2024 final defeat by Spain.

Fans have spotted who was in the background during Gareth Southgate’s post-match interview.

On Sunday night, Southgate’s time in charge of the Three Lions suffered another bitter blow after England were beaten by Spain in the final of Euro 2024.

Goals from Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams and Real Sociedad star Mikel Oyarzabal did the job as La Roja came away 2-1 winners.

After the match, during Southgate’s post-match interview, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was spotted in the background.

Reacting on social media, one fan said: “A world class Manager, a class act, a gentleman, a living legend, some would even say a genius! Oh & Gareth Southgate is in the pic as well, bless him….”

Another tweeted: “Wenger confirmed.”

A third fan added: “Scenes if he acc replaced him.”

Someone else wrote: “England should sack Southgate and get Arsene Wenger. He will revolutionize their national team the way he did with their league.”

A fifth commented: “Arsene Wenger taking a few selfies while Southgate gets interviewed lol.”

On Tuesday, it was confirmed that Southgate has stepped down as the England manager.

In a statement, the 53-year-old said: “As a proud Englishman, it has been the honour of my life to play for England and to manage England. It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all.

“But it’s time for change, and for a new chapter. Sunday’s final in Berlin against Spain was my final game as England manager.”

Southgate continued: “I have had the privilege of leading a large group of players in 102 games. Every one of them has been proud to wear the three lions on their shirts, and they have been a credit to their country in so many ways.

“I look forward to watching and celebrating as the players go on to create more special memories and to connect and inspire the nation as we know they can. Thank you, England – for everything.”

The likes of Eddie Howe, Jurgen Klopp, Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino and Graham Potter have all been linked with the England job.
