Elon Musk's ownership of an EFL club has been simulated, and what happened was crazy.
Earlier this week, Tesla owner and multi-billionaire Musk was tipped to buy League Two side Cheltenham Town, as he could go on to follow in the footsteps of Holywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
The Southern club currently sit in the middle of the League Two table, having been relegated from League One last season, but would surely improve with investment from Musk.

And so we decided to find out exactly what would happen by taking to Football Manager and simulating five years with Musk at the helm.
In his first season as boss, Musk spent just £220k as he made five signings, while selling three players for a total of £7k.
The following season, the X owner continued to enforce change at Cheltenham, appointing former Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Ryan Mason.

He then continued to up his spending in the league throughout his first couple of seasons, leading to his side earning promotion back to League One as Champions of the 2025/26 season.
Ahead of his first season in League One, the South African made a statement of intent by smashing the transfer record with a £7million signing of a player named Francesco Lentini from Milwall.
In January 2026, Musk made another big call to help push his side further up the League One by appointing former Manchester United legend and current Plymouth Argyle manager Wayne Rooney.
However, Rooney lasted just 1 year and 281 days in the position.

As Cheltenham failed to make a push for promotion to the Championship, Must once again broke the transfer record by signing Dutch footballer Melle Meulensteen from Plymouth Argyle for £10m.
But this wasn't enough to secure promotion, and in Musk's first five years in charge, Cheltenham's highest finish in League One was 6th in 2030.
Rumours of Musk's interest in purchasing a club emerged as football finance expert Dr Rob Wilson tipped him to make a move in League Two.

“If Elon Musk wants to get into football club ownership, Cheltenham Town are an extraordinarily interesting prospect, particularly to the US market,” Dr Wilson told OLBG.
"Millions of people in the US love British culture, particularly quintessential Middle England and the Cotswolds where Cheltenham is based.
“You've got these beautiful rolling hills in the background, you've got the racecourse so there is a really powerful story and a powerful narrative at a club like Cheltenham. They are up and coming and could be a great prospect.”
