Cristiano Ronaldo was involved in an incident with a fan during Portugal’s win over Scotland.

On Sunday night, Steve Clarke’s men travelled to the Estadio da Luz to take on Portugal in the UEFA Nations League.

The Scots got off to the perfect start as former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay headed them in front after just seven minutes.

However, in the second half, Bruno Fernandes equalised in the 54th minute before Ronaldo scored the winner with two minutes left on the clock.

It was another crowning moment for the 39-year-old after he hit the 900-goal milestone against Croatia last week.

In the closing stages of the match, Ronaldo was involved in an incident after a fan got onto the pitch in a bid to get a picture with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Reacting on social media, journalist Henry Winter described the situation as ‘dangerous’.

He wrote: “Ridiculous that a pitch invader runs on to try to get a selfie with Ronaldo. Disruptive/dangerous. Ronaldo good, late winner (goal 901) through smart movement.

“Couple of selfless track backs to regain possession, too. Perhaps best way to use him at 39, one-half wonder #PORSCO.”

Speaking after the win against Scotland, Portugal manager Roberto Martinez touched on Ronaldo.

He said: “Cristiano is in good form. He’s played three matches and scored with his club. We have to protect all the players.

“He can't play two consecutive matches of 90 minutes. He has to be there for the end of the match, not the start. I like his commitment.”

Martinez added: “Dependent on Ronaldo? He’s an incredible player. It’s not dependence, he’s an asset.

“In front of goal, he’s crucial. His intelligence to open spaces is important. Speaking of dependence doesn’t make sense.”

On Ronaldo's 900-goal milestone, the Portugal boss said: "I think scoring 900 goals is not easy. It is a historic, incredible feat, it is an inspiration for several generations and for football. But for me, what is important now is why Cristiano scored the goal. I think it was the performance. Very good, full of intelligence. Our striker is not just about goals. It is important. It is a number for the future, but for us the important thing is now."
